Alberta Gathering Place

Tuscaloosa, Alabama  2012

Partners:  Parks and Recreation Association (PARA), Green Mountain Coffee Roasters “Taste of Community” program

In 2011, Tuscaloosa was ravaged by a tornado that cut through the heart of the city. A year later, the city was still working to clean and rebuild in the wake of the storm. Using the debris from the tornado, Pomegranate Center helped rally the community to design and build a gathering place that bring neighbors from all walks of life together.

An expansive amphitheater featuring colorful canvas for shade, made with volunteer labor and donated or salvaged materials, now anchors one end of a greenbelt pathway created to help revitalize Tuscaloosa as it was rebuilding.
